frequently asked questions

What do you mean that you "specialize" in male body waxing?
The primary focus at The Clubhouse is mens body waxing and skincare. Over 90% of our clients are men and waxing is all we do. With extensive experience and specialty training in male grooming including male Brazilian waxing, you will have superior results with minimal discomfort.

Can I make my appointment online?
Yes you can, click here.

How does online booking work?
Online appointment booking is easy.  Simply click the link above, provide contact information such as email and phone number, select the service and day you want and the times available for your services will be displayed.  Select the time that best suits your schedule, review your appointment details and book your appointment.  Immediately after your requested appointment you will receive an email confirming your requested date and time.  If you do not receive this email message, please call 760-705-8110.  I find the main cause of this error is incorrect entry of your email address and I will gladly confirm via telephone.  Of course, if you prefer to book your appointment by telephone, please feel free to call 760-705-8110.

Can I choose my esthetician?
Yes, you can select your esthetician when you book online or by telephone. Occasionally though, we may need to change your service provider. This is very rare and will be due to someone calling out sick or needing a schedule change for important reasons after you have booked. Our primary objective is to meet your scheduling needs and see you at the time you have scheduled.

Why do you require a deposit when new clients book select services?
When you book an appointment, you reserve our inventory. We do not double book. The time you reserve is set aside just for you. We take that very seriously and will be there for your appointment with all the supplies necessary, ready and eager to provide great service and outstanding results. If you cancel on short notice or do not show for your appointment, we do not have the ability to make that inventory available again to others.  The deposit holds the reservation for your first service. You can be confident the time is set aside just for your needs.

I am not a new client but I am required to pay before I can book an appointment, why?
In most instances this has been a case of mistaken identity. If you use a different name, phone number or email address, our system may think you are new and require a payment. Consider trying different a phone number or email address, this may correct the issue. If you've previously booked as James but now try booking as Jim, the same may occur.  The only time payment will be required for established clients is when there has been a pattern of last minute cancellations or one "no show" appointment. Your prepayment lets you know you are serious about your appointment too.

Will I get a refund of my deposit/prepayment?
You will receive full refund of your deposit or prepayment if cancellation is received 24 hours or more before the start of your appointment time. You will not receive a refund if cancellation is received less than 24 hours prior to your appointment. We understand that emergencies may require you to cancel your appointment on short notice. If possible, please call as soon as you can prior to your appointment time. Credit may be given toward future services.

Why wax at all?
Waxing is one of the best methods of temporary hair removal. It is more effective than shaving because it removes the entire hair from the root, not just from the surface of the skin, providing longer lasting results. Over time, and with repeated waxing, unwanted hair grows back finer and more sparse.

I'm curious about waxing but just who really waxes?
There is no one type that receives waxing services.  Clients from all walks of life, countless professions and from 18 years old and up are waxing. If you are curious at all, I encourage you to call us and ask questions. The better informed you are, the easier it will be to make the decision about waxing.  We will answer any questions you may have, strive to reduce your fear and we are confident you will be comfortable with us immediately.  Keep reading these FAQs, we give you a lot of information and share professional expertise as well as what we hear from others that wax.

Yeah, but I'm curious about Male Brazilian Waxing, who really does THAT?
My response from above holds true. All walks of life, all professions and all ages! If you want to feel well groomed, fresh and clean, reduce irritation and chafing from exercise and even look and feel sexier for your mate, you want a Male Brazilian Wax. Keep reading, we answer a lot of questions about Male Brazilian waxing here and encourage you to call if others come up for you.

If I shave, how long do I have to wait for my first wax?
If you shave, we ask that you wait a minimum of two weeks before you wax. The hair should be 1/2" in length for thorough removal after a period of shaving.

How long will the results last?
After your first wax, the results can last 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the individual’s hair re-growth. With regular waxing, the length of time required between treatments will increase significantly. If you typically shave, a few treatments may be required to see the full beneficial effects of waxing.

What can I do between waxing services for maintenance?
I ask that you do nothing between waxing appointments, especially shave.  If there are stray hairs that you wish to remove, tweezing is your best option but I suggest you schedule your next appointment.  Waxing can be safely performed every two to three weeks.  Over time this will not be necessary as your hair becomes finer and more sparse but will give you the best results in the beginning.

Will the hair grow back thicker in waxed areas?
No, usually, re-growth will be finer, thinner and slower in areas that are waxed on a regular basis.

How long does waxing take?
Depending on the body part and the density of the hair growth, most waxing appointments will take between 15 to 90 minutes. First appointments typically take a little longer as there may be more tweezing to achieve the cleanest results. For a Brazilian please allow 60 minutes for your first visit. Thorough results are my goal, not speed.  Your satisfaction is important to me.

Does it hurt?
Quite simply, yes, it hurts.  Pain tolerance is very individual but quality wax and professional technique will make the difference.  The pain will quickly subside and lessen with each visit as the hair thins and less hair is required to be removed from the area. Caffeine can cause increased sensitivity. Taking a mild painkiller such as ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to your visit has been known to reduce pain but only if your doctor has not advised against it.

What exactly is a Brazilian?
A Male Brazilian wax is removal of pubic hair.  This includes the area across your body over your penis, your shaft, scrotum, perineum and between your buttocks.  We can discuss your options if you prefer to leave some hair.  Some men choose to leave a bit of hair across the front of the body. This may include a "happy trail" or an inverted triangle.  At the time of your appointment, we can discuss options that will achieve the look you prefer.

What can I expect during a Brazilian wax?
For your first Mens Brazilian wax we will walk you through what we are doing each step of the way to ensure you are as comfortable as possible with what is happening.  Essentially though, I will cleanse the skin with a mild astringent, put a small amount of oil on the skin and go about removing the hair.  Hair removal will be done with a combination of hard and soft waxes to achieve the best results while minimizing discomfort.  It may help to know that most men tell me it is not as painful as they anticipated it would be, they are very pleased with the results and continue with regular maintenance. Again, pain tolerance is very individual but most tolerate it well and tell me that, contrary to expectations, the area that is most painful is across the front of the body.

What if I get an erection during male Brazilian waxing?
This is a common body response and we will be respectful of each other.  Please remember, we do this almost every day.  This should not be a concern or a source of anxiety for you.

Is waxing for me?
Male Waxing is appropriate for almost everyone. However, some physicians do not recommend it for people suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection.  Waxing should not be performed over moles or wounds and waxing should NEVER be performed on a client who is using Retin-A, Accutane, Renova, Differin or any other acne medication that thins the skin. It is the responsibility of the client to discuss any concerns, conditions or medications that may be contra-indicated for waxing with their physician prior to getting waxed. Also, please advise me if you are allergic to any foods – because if you can’t eat it, you shouldn’t put the extracts on your skin. Please be completely honest about all allergies and medications you are taking – it is for your protection.

Any possible side effects of male body waxing?
We cannot predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience anything beyond redness and some minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs:• Avoid immediate exposure to the sun after waxing and wear a sun-screen as recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.• Avoid heavy exercise for at least 10 hours after waxing.• Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heat sources for at least 48 hours.• Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas until at least 24 hours after waxing.• Avoid tight clothing after waxing as it may result in irritation and/or ingrown hairs.• Avoid deodorants and antiperspirants for 24 hours following an underarm waxing treatment.• Regular exfoliation may be helpful especially on leg and arm areas.• Routine waxing helps the skin become accustomed to the procedure and will minimize irritation.• One of our favorite products to virtually eliminate ingrown hairs is Mancine Ingrown Zone Hair Serum  It is available in our shop and will have you enjoying your results so much more. Please note - Chest waxing for men is the area most prone to breakouts.  If your are coming for your first chest wax, I will highly encourage you to purchase Ingrown Zone ($24+tax 4.25 oz. spray) and you may benefit from treating your skin with Aloe for the first few days so be sure to have some on hand at home.

What can I do to prepare for my appointment?
There really is very little to do to prepare for your appointment.  Shower, and if you wish, take a mild pain killer such as ibuprofen as long as your doctor approves of this for you.  I do not usually recommend trimming prior to your appointment as most take too much making waxing more difficult or they do not take enough and it was a waste of time. However, if your hair is excessively long please feel free to trim to 1/2 inch.

What forms of payment do you accept for services?
We accept cash, check, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard and Visa.

Have I seen 40 Year Old Virgin?
Yes, I have.  This is probably the most common question I get from men and usually they are partly teasing with it but I'm sure the waxing scene has some of you a bit frightened.  If you have been considering waxing for a while but you are concerned about the pain, I understand that but most men tell me it is far less than they expected, they tolerate it well and are very pleased with the results. Again, quality waxing products and professional technique will make a significant difference. I offer both! Lastly, at Pure Waxing, you are not walking into a salon setting, services are one on one, highly professional and I strive to make your experience very comfortable.
