Before

First things first… Let it grow! Patience is your friend.  If you've been shaving don't even think about booking that appointment until you've got 1/2 inch of growth. If you're a regular waxer, 1/4 inch is all you need.  Keep in mind waxing will be painful and not as effective if you haven't waited long enough.

To help you prepare for your service, we recommend the following:

On the day of your service:

  • Take a hot shower to open the follicle.
  • Exfoliate the area to remove dead skin cells and lift trapped hairs.
  • DO NOT apply lotion, deodorant or any other skin care product to the area to be waxed.
  • 30 minutes before your appointment, take an over the counter pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil as long as it's not against the advice of your physician.
  • Check for the following items at home and pick up as needed prior to your service to have on hand for your post waxing skin care.
  1. Antibacterial Soap
  2. Cortisone Cream
  3. Ingrown Hair Preventative such as Ingrown Zone Hair Serum or Cream
  4. Body Lotion
  5. Exfoliating brush, glove, loofah or mesh sponge.

Of course, aftercare items are available for purchase at the time of your service in our shop. Also be sure to ask about our featured product sample.

At Pure Waxing for Men, we have performed thousands of waxing services and we've learned a thing or two that will make the process as easy and painless as possible and keep you enjoying your results worry free for weeks to come.

After

Caring for your skin between waxing services can make the difference between enjoying smooth, hair free skin and feeling like you are at war with breakouts, bumps and ingrown hairs.

Following the advice below and that given to you by your men's waxing specialist at the time of your service is strongly recommended.

For a period of 24 hours AVOID:

  • Working Out
  • Sun Tanning (Including spray tanning)
  • Tub Bathing
  • Hot Tubs
  • Saunas
  • Tight Clothing
  • Keep showers in the first 24 hours at a mild temperature to help close the follicle.

Use antibacterial soap in your shower or bath for the first 3 to 5 days to keep the open follicle free of bacteria that may cause a breakout.

To aid in preventing ingrown hairs, exfoliate the waxed area starting two days after your service and for continued home care, we recommend exfoliating 1 to 3 times per week depending on the method you use.  Moisturize the area daily.

Use your ingrown hair prevention product for 7 to 10 days when the new hairs begin to surface. Resume use 2 to 3 days prior to your next appointment. Ingrown Zone Hair Serum, our preferred ingrown hair prevention product, contains Salicylic Acid and Glycolic Acid. Using these products for 2 to 3 days prior to your service will begin to breakdown the hair bulb allowing the hair to slip out of the follicle more easily during your service.

Lastly, do not shave between services. Shaving makes the hair resistant to future waxing services and makes it more painful when you do return for your next service.  Grab those tweezers for minor touch ups and book your next appointment.

We recommend waxing every 4 to 6 weeks.
